Circular economy survey on line

Circular economy: "Imagine circularity" survey online until April 19

How is circular economy – a concept increasingly used and sometimes even misused- perceived? What are its most important actions? What priority should be given to actions such as 'recycle', 'recover', 'redesign' towards achieving a circular economy? These and other questions are part of the international "imagine circularity" survey, online until April 19, which aims at understanding how people perceive and what is the vision of the circular economy at a global level and at improving its knowledge and dissemination.

The initiative is promoted by REVOLVE Circular, a non-profit organization committed to a transition towards an increasingly circular and inclusive society, by the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development of the University of Utrecht in collaboration with the University of Turin, the University of Messina , the University of Chieti-Pescara, with the support of ICESP – la Piattaforma Italiana degli Attori per l’Economia Circolare, including, in particular, ENEA, which coordinates the platform and PVC Forum Italia.

The survey aims at developing a better understanding of the concept of circularity not only among insiders, but in society as a whole; from policy makers to public institutions, from the business community to consumers, civil society, the media and other subjects who can contribute to a faster transition from a linear take-make-waste economy to a circular economy based on cycles closure and regeneration of resources.

The questionnaire, available in several languages including Italian, consists of a part common to all Countries, with questions divided into 6 thematic areas concerning vision, actions, areas and daily activities related to the circular economy, with the addition of 3 specific topics / questions for each country. For Italy they are:

  • Circular economy and climate change
  • Consumers’choices and food consumption
  • Role of different actors for the circular transition

"The survey, completely anonymous and open to all, aims at raising awareness among a representative sample of one million people globally, from experts to neophytes and contributing to circular literacy" – said Paola De Bernardi, coordinator of the initiative and professor of Circular Economy Management at the University of Turin. "In fact, to date there is no universally accepted definition but several ones which lead to different, even conflicting interpretations.
