Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development
Expo Doha 2023: ENEA presents space gardens, fusion energy and innovations for food and water
Urban and space gardens, innovative technologies for sustainable agriculture, drought resilience, farming in extreme environments but also climate services and nuclear fusion with the Italian project DTT (Divertor Tokamak Test facility) for a future safe, clean and inexhaustible energy.
These are some of the activities ENEA is presenting at the Doha Expo, scheduled until 28th March 2024 and dedicated to the Green desert, a better environment, a journey into new technologies for sustainable agriculture, food security, drought resilience, adaptation to climate change and energy.
The Italian Pavilion called "The garden of the future", created by the ICE Agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, will showcase research excellence and italian know-how applied to agriculture and process innvovations.
In the ENEA stand set up at the Innovation Center of the Expo, visitors will walk on a journey through videos, totems and panels to discover the Agency's capacity for innovation and technological transfer, to deliver Qatar and other interested countries the results and products of its research activities and know-how: new technologies for energy, the environment and sustainable development, new horizons of research and the results obtained for cultivation in extreme environments, in cities and Space, innovation in the agri-food sector.
But also agriculture 4.0; Mediterranean diet; nature-based solutions to preserve water resources; climate and ecosystem services; blue economy; regenerative strategies; contribution to studies on climate change provided by the long-term observation networks of the Mediterranean and the Poles; energy of the future from nuclear fusion, with the DTT project being implemented in the ENEA Frascati Research Center (Rome).
In the ENEA area visitors will be able to admire prototypes of "urban and space gardens" for hydroponically grown crops cultivation on board of spacecrafts, in planetary outposts, in cities, in the desert or at the poles, to provide fresh food and contribute to psychophysical well-being.
In this edition of the Expo ENEA will also hold several events and expert talks as part of a broad calendar of collateral events, conferences, workshops, training and cultural initiatives that will take place during the six months-exhibition.
